POST-CONGRESS TOUR TO DRESDEN ON May 19, 2000 (9.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m.)

Baroque, Neo-Renaissance and Classic are collected and have become an integral part of Dresden. After the massive bombing of the city during the night of the 13th to the 14th of February 1945, this destroyed city maintained not only its flair and began to rebuild and reconstruct its buildings back to their original beauty and structure.

Numerous attributes have been given to this city. Called the Florence on the Elbe, Dresden is a city full of culture and art. Upon hearing the name Dresden, who does not think of the Grüne Gewölbe (the green vault), the Albertinum with the art gallery, the Zwinger, built for Augustus the Strong and of course the Court Church.
One of the most famous sites in Dresden is the Semper Opera House, newly reconstructed and as breathtaking as when it was first built.

The Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), whose ruins served as a memorial to those killed in the bombing raid, is now undergoing complete reconstruction. Each of the original stones has been numbered and tagged and will be used in the rebuilding.

The Dresden of old enticed such poets as Schiller, Kleist, Tieck and Uhland and world famous musicians such as von Weber, Wagner and Richard Strauss. All of them were attracted to this city and caught up in its current and atmosphere.

Cost: EUR 92 per person including entrance fees and lunch.

POST-CONGRESS TOUR SPREEWALD ON May 19, 2000 (9.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m.)

Approximately 120 km from Berlin lies the area of Niederlausitz with its Spreewald (Wald = forest). At the centre of the Spreewald is a 45km long and 10 km wide river and island region. This area is threaded with romantic water ways which weave a lacework pattern through the forests, meadows and by-ways of this idyllic and unique province. A network of more than 300 waterways!
Apart from this, the region is characterized by centuries. old farm houses, with their thatched roofs and mansions. This is where one of the minorities in Germany live: the Sorbian minority, descendant of Western Slav people who settled in the Lausitz area of Germany, after the migration of the 6 th century, who remain proud of their language, traditions and culture up to today.

You will be taken on a discovery tour through this country in a typical . Spreewaldkahn . - a punt of the region. A ferry man adorned in traditional Spreewald costume will pole the skiff through a seemingly endless labyrinth of brooks, rivers and canals, which earned the land its other name - Venice of the North. A stop at Lehde,a tiny lagoon village with a population of 150 which boasts almost as many islands as houses, allow sightseers to visit the Open-Air-Museum. There, three early 19th Century farms, complete with living quarters and outbuildings, display rustic furniture, folk, art, costumes and agricultural implements.
