will start with the Opening Ceremony on Saturday May 13, 2000 at 5.00 p.m. and will end with the Closing Ceremony on Thursday May 18, 2000 at 5.00 p.m.

Congress language

The official language of the Congress is English (except for the 71 st Annual Meeting of the German Society of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, Head and Neck Surgery which will be held in German with simultaneous English translation).

A Certificate of Attendance is included in the folder which will be provided at the registration desk.

The registration package will be handed out to the participants at the registration desk during the following opening hours:

On-site registration will be managed within the same time frame.

Trade exhibition

The congress will host a trade exhibition including the latest technology, equipment, pharmaceutical products and literature.

The exhibition will be open from Saturday May 13 starting with the Opening Ceremony at 5.00 p.m.until Thursday May 18 at 5.00 p.m.

Saturday May 13, 2000 7.00 a.m. - 2.00 p.m.
Dismantling of Booths Thursday May 18, 2000 6.00 p.m. - 12.00 p.m.
Friday May 19, 2000 7.00 a.m. - 12.00 a.m.


Early dismantling of the Booths is not allowed.

On-site facilities

A bank as well as a cash machine and a currency exchange machine are located in the entrance foyer of the ICC.

There are different restaurants in the International Congress Centre.

Coffee breaks (in the exhibition area) as well as lunches are included in the registration fee.

Registered participants will receive lunch tickets together with their documents. In exchange for these tickets lunches are handed at the lunch station.

Transportation

The ICC can easily be reached from the town-centre by bus, U-Bahn or S-Bahn:
  • Bus lines: 104,149,204,219
  • U-Bahn: line U2, Station: Kaiserdamm
  • S-Bahn: lines S3, S7, S9, Station: Westkreuz lines S45, S46, Station: Witzleben
  • By car. If you are planning to drive to the ICC, follow the signs “Congress Centrum ”or “Messe Berlin”. The ICC car park has 650 parking places, which can be paid with notes or coins.
  • By taxi. Taxis are usually beige.The average cost from the town-centre to the ICC is EUR 10.

Weather

Electricity

The electric current in Germany is 220 Volts but most hotels provide 110 Volts outlets for electrical razors.

Telephones

Pay phones are available in the International Congress Centre (ICC)for local and long distance calls. Phone cards can be purchased at the ICC information desk.

Banks

Banks are usually open
Mondays and Wednesdays from 9.00 a.m.to 3.00 p.m.,
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9.00 a.m.to 6.00 p.m.and
Fridays from 9.00 a.m.to 1.00 p.m.

The closest banks to the ICC are the Deutsche Bank and the Dresdner Bank at the Theodor-Heuss-Platz. A bank as well as a cash machine and a currency exchange machine are located in the entrance foyer of the ICC.

Credit Cards

Most hotels in Berlin accept major credit cards.
Restaurants and shops do not always accept credit cards.
Therefore it is recommended to carry Eurocheques or cash.

Shopping

Department stores and groceries are normally open from
Monday to Friday from 9.00 a.m.to 8.00 p.m. and
Saturday from 9.00 a.m.to 2.00 p.m.

Tipping

In pubs, restaurants, taxis, etc. a tip of 5 to 10% is customary.

Acknowledgement

A confirmation / invoice will be mailed after the fees have been cashed (bank transfer,cheque or credit card). To facilitate on-site management, participants should bring this confirmation letter to the registration desk.
